Now Board Member at #iamtheCODE

I met Mariéme Jamme, who’s the founder of iamtheCODE earlier this year, first in Lisbon and a few weeks later in Johannesburg, where we were on the same panel. Both times, I was impressed about the vision and passion behind the #iamtheCODE movement.

Therefore I also immediately accepted, when Mariéme asked me, if I would like to be a member of the board and support the project.

The #iamtheCODE is a pivotal movement to mobilise governments, business and investors to support young women in STEAMD (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Design), through learning how to code, creative learning and cracking problems.

In Africa, young girls growing up in slums or the worst parts of the continent are often forgotten and have zero chance to find a sense of creative direction.

With over 65 Million girls being denied access to basic education, a new bold vision on girl’s education is imperative if we want to create the next digital leaders.

The evidence shows that if we do not break down barriers and help move girls in the technology industry forward through inclusion, we will be creating layers of citizenship and a digital divide in our society.

By 2030, the iamtheCODE movement will ensure that 1 Million women and girls have equal access to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university. We are creating a generation of female digital leaders, I hope that I will be able to use my skills, network and ressources to support the movement and also to encourage others to do the same.
